Veterinarian, innovator of the Krishna Limb, and the founder of our mission.


Key area of work: Treating animal disability (amputation) by installing the Krishna Limb — innovated, field-tested and recognised/awarded by scientific and academic professional forums for developing and innovating animal prosthesis.

Credentials: Dr Tapesh Mathur is a veterinarian by profession with the Government of Rajasthan. In 21 years of service he has worked at various stations including urban and rural veterinary hospitals, the cattle commission and gaushalas. His expertise in animal surgery and planning took him to the Go Sewa Ayog (Cattle Commission of Rajasthan) as Secretary on deputation, where he launched several schemes through which the Commission earned wide repute and became self-sufficient. He was also chief architect of the Government plan for free medicines in animal husbandry. His posting at the Rural Veterinary Polyclinic has been exemplary — including a record number of rumenotomy operations (removing plastic and other foreign bodies from the rumen of orphan cows: 250 operations over 2 years). He is a key mentor of the Save Birds campaign during the kite festival, having rescued and operated on injured vultures (endangered), owls, kites and pigeons by stitching wings to help them fly again, and has treated large animals including lion, elephant and horse.

Member: First vet as a member (2015–2017) of the Committee for the Purpose of Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals (CPCSEA), Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Government of India.

Awards: Gold Medal for Research and Innovation by the panel of jury at the International Symposium & 38th Annual Congress on Surgery (2014), organised by the Rajasthan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Bikaner, where 400+ research papers were presented. At the 39th National Conference of the Indian Society of Veterinary Surgery, Srinagar (2015), he received a Gold Medal in the Best Field Veterinarian category for his work on the Krishna Limb.

Qualification: B.V.Sc. & A.H., RAJUVAS, Bikaner. Sectors of experience: amputation surgery and prosthetic limbs, animal husbandry, cattle and small-animal surgery, bird rescue and surgery, and policy planning.

Honorary association: PEN Media Foundation, a registered society, undertakes the Krishna Limb and animal-welfare activities by organising camps for limb installation.
